About the Author
Laurence "Lol" Tolhurst formed The Cure with Robert Smith in 1978. The Cure would go on to chart an impressive selection of achievements that includes selling over 27 million units worldwide and earning 40 Platinum and Gold Records. Lol, who continues to write and perform, makes his home in Los Angeles.

“I didn’t need him to tell me that; I already knew what hell was like.”

I enjoyed Lol’s memoir for the most part. His writing style is good, and I managed to finish the book in just two days. In it, you’ll find lots of interesting, occasionally funny, tidbits about The Cure’s history, like the Billy Idol toilet incident, or he and Robert’s constant altercations with skinheads. Lol does a good job setting up a dynamic between him and Robert- one of best friendship, followed by a bitter sacking and lawsuit, and ultimately reconciliation after Lol recovered from his crippling alcoholism.

The reason I have to deduct a star is that Lol's recounting of 1985-1989 seems insufficiently thorough. This can be blamed in part on Lol’s out-of-control alcoholism and diminishing role in the band, but there are three omissions I find particularly odd. First, while Lol discusses songs like Killing An Arab, Let's Go To Bed, The Walk, and Love Cats at length, he has nothing to say about any of the prolific songs which emerged during the 1985-1989 period like Inbetween Days, Close To Me, Just Like Heaven, or Lovesong, let alone the colorful videos Tim Pope made for Close To Me and Why Can’t I Be You? He mentions Robert's room catching fire during the Disintegration sessions, but stops just short of saying this was the inspiration for Pictures Of You. Nor does Lol state which of his, albeit few, ideas made it to the Disintegration album (Homesick is rumored to stem from one of his demos). Second, Lol doesn’t even mention Roger O’Donnell (“a midterm addition to the band”) until the book’s last chapter on the 2011 Reflections shows. In reality, Roger joined in 1987 because of Lol’s incompetence, and even filled in for Lol at shows where he was too drunk to perform. Third, I’ve read many articles describing Lol as the butt of vicious abuse by other band members in the late 80s- Robert even penned Shiver and Shake and Babble about him. Lol has nothing to say about this either.

That being said, do get this book if you’re a Cure fan, because you’ll probably learn something. I emerged with a newfound respect for both Robert and Lol. Robert, the enigmatic figure who’s “part of this world and also not part of it,” and someone who fought hard for his success, as well as Lol’s protection. Lol, someone who while not very technically proficient, served as the band’s “X Factor,” and likely kept Robert from disbanding The Cure altogether circa 1983/84.

A Must Read for any Cure Fan

Cured is a unique and eye-opening account of the band's earliest years, life on tour, and Lol's own disintegration into alcoholism. Surprisingly well written and captivating, and with beautiful cover art designed by former band member Pearl Thompson, the book reads as a conversation with an old friend. I found myself laughing, smiling, and even crying as I read Lol's version of events. My heart breaks for little Lol growing up with a distant father. I feel his teenage angst as he describes the desire to escape his dismal surroundings and carve out a space for himself in the fascinating world of rock and roll. And I ache when I read how it felt for him to have been pushed out of the band when alcoholism got the best of him. The real triumph of this story comes in the form of his inspirational journey back from destruction. For years we fans have heard the rumors, seen the mockery that has been made of Lol, and wondered how it all truly went down. Tolhurst proves, much to our delight, that things are never so one-sided. A must read for any die-hard fan, this remarkably personal look into his life will turn you into a Lol Tolhurst fan if you're not already.

One of the best music memoirs/autobiographies I've read--and not just because I love the Cure.

Funnily enough, I had been thinking about the lack of any really good recent books about the Cure, or by a member of the Cure--and not a day later, I read that this book was about to be released. I ordered it and waited eagerly for its release.

I didn't know what to expect; I haven't read or heard all that many interviews with Lol, and I wasn't sure what his style, voice, or tone would be like. Music autobios/memoirs are a crap shoot. Some are well done and leave you with a good sense of the individual and the evolution of his or her music and career; some are informative, but all too obviously written by ghost writers or edited with a heavy hand; and some are just plain disappointing across the board due to bad writing and/or the lack of honest self reflection and introspection on the part of the musician.

So I was very pleased to find out how much I truly enjoyed the book (I read it in a couple days). Lol is honest and authentic, which makes this book a satisfying read. He does an excellent job of recounting stories from the Cure's early days from his own perspective, providing insight into the personalities and relationships that make The Cure The Cure. He's respectful of his former bandmates, while primarily turning the critical eye towards himself. And unlike some musicians, he doesn't start telling a story only to end it abruptly with "well, I won't get into what happened next, it's too personal." Any story he tells, he tells from beginning to end, getting the point across without being unnecessarily salacious or shocking. This indicates a respect for the reader as well.

I'm really glad I read this book (and happened to hear about it at just the right time). I applaud Lol Tolhurst for the work he did in providing us with a genuinely insightful and satisfying read.

I was born on February 27, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. My first paid writing job was creating live, multi-media high school assembly programs for Rick Trow Productions in Philadelphia. In 1973 I moved to New York City to work at Harper & Row, Publishers, Inc., where I produced multi-media programs for school audiences. San Francisco was my next stop. There, I wrote Crush on a Hermes typewriter at an oak table by my window on Webster Street. Little, Brown and Company, published Crush in 1981. That same year, Holt, Rinehart and Winston published Marin: The Place, The People, a profile of Marin County, California, with photography by Robert Conover. From 1983 to 1995, I worked as a massage therapist, English teacher and freelance journalist, writing mostly for Plexus, the San Francisco Chronicle and The Slant, a Marin County LGBT newspaper that I helped launch and edit. In 1991, Avon Books published my second novel, Promise Not to Tell, a story about an unhappy teen-aged boy who helps a friend in desperate trouble, creating more trouble along the way but learning a lot about kindness, friendship and the criminal justice system. I joined the staff of the Marin Independent Journal in 1995, working first as an editorial writer and later a reporter. In 1997, Alyson Publications published Dream Lover, a novel about the improbable affair of two former school friends who fall in love as middle-aged women. My life took an unexpected turn in 1999, when my partner and I bought one hundred and sixty acres in the mountains of northern Mendocino County. We moved there permanently in 2004, leaving the suburbs behind and learning to love rattlesnakes, bears, coyotes, marijuana growers and each other. Women Gone Wild, released by Women Gone Wild Press in 2012, is the true story of our adventure. A Book I Can Well Relate To. . .

Honest without being bitter, sexual without being pornographic, and like a shot of emotion direct to the heart, "Crush" was a very well-written book that was easy to relate to. I'm a gay teenager, and I'm in a small town that reacts to lesbians the same way the people in the boarding school did. When I read Jinx's feelings towards Lexie, I just sat there thinking "My god, that's me with [insert girl's name here]" (even though I doubt [insert girl's name here] would act as cruel and thoughtless as Lexie did).
Any book that can suck me in with its drama rather than make me feel jaded and cause me to feel the same emotions as the leading character is an instant classic on my list. I had to put down the book several times to tell myself that Lexie was fiction and not actually betraying Jinx (and all her readers). But then I remembered the Lexies in my life, and in the lives of millions of other lesbian teenagers. I wish that I could send a copy of this book to all of those "other lesbian teenagers", with a little note inside saying "You are not alone".

Could be captioned with "based on a true story"

This book rings so true it made my skin crawl at each turn of the page.The depiction of all characters is outstanding, and bundled together in a way to actually make you feel this is a TRUE story. This innocent, good-at-heart girl, incapable of harming a fly, who will rather cry herself to sleep rather than fight back any injustice, fighting to know herself and find her place in the world... Miggin, the faithful friend, supporting her friend no matter the circumstances... Nicky, Woodie, these adults who help perpetuate the hypocrisy, one more willingly and the other by omission of action... Laura and Maddy, epitomes of rich-girl-that-has-to-have-her-way... And last but obviously not least, Lexie, egotistical to the point of making me want to spit in her face, who will hurt anyone and everyone for the sole purpose of achieving her own goals, capable of sacrifying everyone and everything but herself. She seemed to me the perfect picture of a very dangerous sociopath on the loose, on the first stages of developing and forming a cunning, fox-like personality that --you know it and Jinx says it-- will help her go through to life killing herself on her Jaguar or running over anyone that is innocent enough to cross her path.

This book really impressed me, it's one of the few I've read in this "genre" that doesn't have that "sappy" tendency to make it all right in the end. It rings true, cruelly true.

A doormat and a psycho

I've read a lot of GLBT young adult fiction. I wonder why it is that all the lesbian ones are in first person and told from the butchier girl's perspective? Maybe it's some kind of unwritten rule. Right next to the one that says one of the girls should have a funky name, like Battle or Holland. The main protagonist here is named Jinx, and the action takes place at a boarding school for girls in about 1964. An aspiring artist, Jinx becomes infatuated with an unstable girl at her school named Lexie. Jinx is very doormatish, and lets her actions be dictated by Lexie, to the point that she's doing some incredibly stupid things. When she finally gets a backbone and tries to put a stop to it, Lexie does not react well.

The story is interesting, but I frequently wanted to smack Jinx for lusting such a screwed up girl and putting up with her crap. There's at least some hope that she's going to start sticking up for herself more in the future, but I can't budge the feeling that, if this book had continued into Jinx's later life, we'd find that she'd done what was expected of a girl in that time period, and given up her artistic dreams to find herself a nice husband.

Readable Revisionism: King Does It Again!

Author M.S. King is a prolific writer and at this time has seven or eight titles available on Amazon. There is no doubt that King is a revisionist.

First, the good part. King does a marvelous job of providing proof to his thesis that the Rothschilds and their lackeys are working to create a New World Order run mostly by the moneymen. He gives the gentle reader pictures, quotes, and newspaper headlines on most every page. This is not only great documentation but makes for easy reading either from cover to cover or cafeteria style browsing. It becomes difficult to refute his conclusions. And, I admit I've become a revisionist over the last ten or fifteen years. To my limited knowledge many of King's statements are dead-on accurate.

Now for a couple of fun observations. Isn't it strange the large number of deaths of folks who might oppose this NWO by patsies? Oswald said he was a patsy and the MLK family doesn't believe there was a lone gunman. How about false flag attacks? The Maine blown up by Spaniards? More likely as King notes it was a Civil War era "coal bomb." How about Tonkin Bay? And the list goes on. Second, King documents how the media really is controlled by Jews: television, newspapers, magazines, Hollywood. Is this just coincidence?

Now for a couple of problems. King could have done a little better in editing, e.g. the same photo appears on page 152 and 155 in Volume I. OK, no big deal. I can't, however, verify all of King's statements. In Volume II he notes that Jane Harmon is a homosexual and an owner of Newsweek. Harmon has been married twice and has two children and I can't find a reference to her ownership of Newsweek. Harmon is Jewish.

Still, King's thesis seems very valid and his documentation is terrific. Even if ten or twenty per cent of his work is in error there is no arguing that Western Civilization and the white race are done for. At the book's end King quotes Frederick Lindemann, the Jewish technical advisor to Churchill and the architect of the carpet bombing of Germany. His answer to the question of what future historians will regard as the most important event of this age he said, "It will be the abdication of the White Man."

Despite a few flaws I very highly recommend the books. You won't be disappointed.

Oh, one final thing. King believes there is a crack in the NWOers. One branch, the bankers, want control while the other branch, the Neo-cons want Zionist control. If a feud develops that might be the only thing that saves us.

Control the money, control the information, control the world

This volume chronicles events from the beginning of the banking dynasty that rules our world through the events leading up to World War II. I stumbled across King by accident a couple of years ago when I decided my knowledge of history wasn't to my liking. Surfing the internet looking for history books I found a number that looked pretty good but put me to sleep rather quickly. That isn't the case here. King has a writing style the keeps the night light on and the pages turning. The only thing I don't like about his work is it's usually very depressing. But King isn't engineering the catastrophes that are leading the world to the collapse of civilization; he's merely reporting them and analyzing them. A doctor cannot treat an illness until he's identified the root cause and King does just that. Some of the information presented here is very shocking, and very different from the things I believed most of my life. I do not believe the New World Order can be stopped. They are ruthless, ingenious, and in control of the money, the media, and the politicians who control the military. But unlike most of my brainwashed fellow citizens, I won't be surprised when our world comes crashing down.

MASTERPIECE!

How is it possible to squeeze 250 years of serious history into 2 heavily illustrated volumes of about 300 pages each? I don't how the author did it --- but he did!

This was an absolutely mind-blowing journey for me. Reads like suspense - no unnecessary verbiage. Just event after event after event - all showing the common link of the New World Order.

Amazing photos, easy to digest, clean and crisp writing. Planet Rothschild fills in the gaps that other N.W.O. researchers don't even know exist. Even by the high standards of M S King, this is his best work yet.

This study guide was very instrumental in helping me pass the CPHQ exam on my 1st attempt! It is easy to read and follow the concepts. Not only are the type of test question in the back of the book very close to the actual exam, the explanation for each answer helped to further clarify the concepts for me. Also has great test taking tips.

Practiced for 2 days and passed on the first try. Would recommend this book, but spend more than 2 days practicing!

The practice exam provided by the makers of the test provide the best examples of the kind of questions asked. This book is great at providing a great summary of what you need to learn. However, on how to apply the content, you'll want to think it through on your own or get other reinforcement data. YouTube may be a good alternative for this.

I used the online course the test makers created as well as this book. 1 day of studying with each for about 15 hours each day. Again, the material provided by the test makers was good at understanding how they ask the exam questions, and the book is a great summary of the information they expect you to know to answer the questions that they ask.
