Same material in 1988 edition!

For those of us looking for new up-to-date technical information in the process field we will have to go elsewhere. This book contains the same basic information as in the first edition. While it has some good material for learning beginning theoretical process control at the technical level it is a waste of money if you are interested in modern technology.

A good book for beinners but take a look at your course req

This was one of the first books i read on process control.Whether or not you should buy the book would depend on what your course demands.
The beauty of the book lies in its lucidity which shows the authors understanding of all the sensors and instruments...the book stresses on the principles of working of all the instruments. i understood every single transducer I learnt about in the book.Another plus point of the book is that it is self-sufficient, in that you dont have to take another book while reading this one.It starts off by discussing all that you need to know about OP-Amp circuits for process control and even digital electronics.
My course in Process Control demanded a very high degree of detail in most of the process control mechnanisms and transducers so i didnt find everything I needed in this book.But it covered my syllabus to the greatest extent of all the books and explained it in a beautiful manner.

Decent book

Worked great for my class, what little we used it. I'm a MET major that is required to take this electrical course, so it was a little outside my field of study. The book wasn't too bad, and the Eastern Education Edition (International) was actually recommended by our professor. Did everything we needed it to do.

Thus, in his film Salo , members of the haute monde dine on their own excrement; Pasolini is telling us in his inimitable way that consumer society will end up consuming the fruit of its own uselessness. An unwavering homosexual taken to court 33 times yet never found guilty, Pasolini had typically complex views on homosexuality. Probably because he needed alienation to be creative, he had no interest in organizations to promote individual liberation. Schwartz starts the book with the gripping details of Pasolini's murder and at the finale returns to chronicle the tragic recidivism of the 17-year-old murderer. The Intellectual Icon

With rigorous scholarship, this biography captures the complexity of Pasolini and his time. Politics and culture are intertwined, as with no other country except Russia. Pasolini saw himself as a writer and teacher. Italy was his classroom. From scholar, poet, philologist, professor, writer, editor, critic, intellectual, polemicist, and, finally, filmmaker, Pasolini was doggedly communicating to the Italian populace.

His early films are reflections of reality ~ the life of the subproletarian, a symbol of fascism and its failed recovery. With the advent of capitalism, consumerism, and bourgeois middle-class, the marginalized no longer retain their innocence. The people and culture were becoming more homogenized. Pasolini is rendered aphasic, as the culture no longer listens or understands. His films are increasingly metaphoric, symbolic, and allegorical in attempts to communicate. With his final film, there is no hope for humanity. Provocation never led to understanding, nor would it be possible until the messenger was dead. The mythos is created.

Discussions of anti-Fascism, Marxism, and Freud are simplifications of his work and art (as is the above commentary). Pasolini's epoch demands further scrutiny. Only in this Italy, with its reigning triumvirate of ecclesiastic, monarchist, and dictatorial rule, could a Pasolini and this symbiotic relationship with culture exist.

One of the greatest biographies I've ever read....

This is a magnificent book, as magnificent as its subject, Pasolini. It's an absolutely fascinating, mesmerizing, incredibly researched and meticulous biography of one of the greatest artists the 20th century ever produced.

Many (especially in this country) know Pasolini for his notorious, shocking, deeply disturbing film Salo or the 120 Days of Sodom. The reality is that he was a true Renaissance man, writing novels, plays, poems (he was a well known poet before he became a filmmaker), essays, and of course, his filmmaking. He was an astoundingly brilliant man, but a deeply disturbed man as well. This book manages to encompass the whole story of Pier Paolo Pasolini, not just his filmmaking. It also goes into Pasolini's notorious personal life, and his senseless, brutal murder. As another reviewer said, the book never judges Pasolini, preferring the verdict to be left to the reader. The book is filled with amazing quotes from Pasolini himself, ones that speak volumes about life, love, the world, politics, everything. He was a truly remarkable man, and Barth David Schwartz has written a remarkable, brilliant novel, worthy of Pasolini.

Excellent, thorough, and unbiased

"Pasolini Requiem" is by far the most complete biography of the fascinating filmmaker, poet, painter, and political commentator. Schwartz presents as clear a picture as possible of an ambiguous, ambitious, controversial (and to some ways of thinking pretentious and immoral) artist balancing a compulsion to create wholly original products with a desire to revive and continue ancient, nearly dead traditions.

One of the more impressive aspects of this massive bio is that it manages to explain Pasolini's well-documented quirks, deviancy, and combativeness without moralizing or defending the subject. PPP's life makes for absorbing reading, though the author's dedication to presenting seemingly every available fact sometimes bogs down the flow of the narrative. With that one relatively minor caveat, I can easily recommend the book for those interested in artist bios that go beyond superficial criticism, the birth of independent cinema in Europe, the conflict between art and censorship, or Italian life during the World War II era.

I dearly love this book. Someone gave me an antique copy when I was in grade school and it's wonderful now to have it on my Kindle. For readers who don't know Jerome K. Jerome, this is an amusing introduction to a very droll writer who was also an acute observer of his time. And it's a quick read for aficionados of Christmas ghost stories.

Jerome K. Jerome will make you laugh out loud. Told After Supper is a humorous and entertaining book. It is in the Victorian style when ghost stories were often told at Christmas. The book is a quick read, and could be read in one sitting. Told after supper is going to be a traditional Christmas read for me now.

Excellent book

I could not put this book down. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the author's experiences as a pilot in Vietnam, and his respectable decision to stop flying following his service in the war. This book contains one exceptionally remarkable section in which the author ties his experience to Einstein's Theory of Relativity and the facts about time which that theory offers. Real life examples which relate to complex scientific theories always provide interesting insight to the nature of humanity. All in all, this book serves as an interesting lesson about not only Vietnam, but also the implications war has on humanity.

Pucker Factor ten-thousand

As a Vietnam Infantry veteran, I have always held the chopper pilots in the highest regard for always being there when needed. Without them, we would not have survived. I had jumped from choppers into hot LZ's, finding the deepest depression or fattest tree for protection before returning fire - pucker factor ten-thousand! These pilots were relentless and continued to ferry and land reinforcements with not much protection for themselves. They flew their machines through steady streams of gunfire, and yet,they continued as if they were invincible. Dust off's, ash and trash runs, troop deployments and evacuations and over-head support were all part of their everyday job.

Mr Joyce does a wonderful job with this well-told story and offers the reader an in-depth look at the everyday life of these flying warriors, which isn't, by the way, a nine to five job. The book follows Mr. Joyce from the first day he volunteers to fly planes in college, through his fixed wing flight training and later reassignment to a helicopter squadron, and then during his tour in Vietnam. The author also has a fantastic sense of humor that sometimes catches you off-guard and will make you laugh out loud. After reading Pucker Factor 10, I have bumped up these pilots a couple of notches on my high esteem list. I also have a much better understanding of what these sky warriors had to endure in order to survive...sadly, many did not!

You gotta be joking!!!

It was a fair read until the author's story of he and his friends showing up at the airport, with beer, renting an aircraft and drinking said beer in flight.
The author's comment about drinking and driving being illegal, but drinking and flying NOT being illegal, is totally INCORRECT. On top of that, I know of NO self respecting aircraft operator who would rent an aircraft, a second time, to someone who, dropped empty beer cans on the ramp at the conclusion of his first rental flight!! This totally negated ANY credibility as to the veracity of the author. By the way, the Cessna 172 does not have a "choke". At least the author admitts he has no business flying an airplane.
